Another Inktober Challenge done and I cannot miss sharing my experience and the thought process behind it. Following the Challenge rules and the same method as last 2022 year, I created a new Halloween Poster Design which you can purchase on my online store.
As I did not use the ink pens since last year, I had used the exact same ones this 2023.
Last year the designed theme was about pumpkin, (check project here) that is why for this year I wanted to change the protagonist of the story and decided to go for a skeleton.
The final idea of the design, came out when I had to figure out where to place the word "HALLOWEEN".
Maybe between the ribs bones ? Maybe standing on the air ? Maybe it could be laid on the floor ? ….
None of them supported the feeling I wanted to create, and at this point is when the top middle illustration of my moldboard, the skeleton in the cemetery with the red moon inspired me to record the word "Halloween" on a grave.

TOP: In the picture, you can find the bottom of the poster design: the word Halloween stamped on the grave, the skeleton body and other firsts elements already added.
For the storytelling of this design, my skeleton would be The Death, who is always hanging around the cemetery, taking care of the dead. It would show us what is hiding within its black cape. This sort of reminded me the Reels and YouTube videos Vogue does with famous where they show the content of their bags, but in this case Death will show us its tools and secrets.
From this idea came the name of the design "DEATH REVEALS ITS SECRETS"
FINAL RESULT
We usually fears death, the unknown, but in this illustration, I wanted to portrait as a completely honest character. Death just took a short break between its to do's at the cemetery and is showing us what it usually hides beneath the cloak. Demons and angels works hand in hand with death; potions and a magical fortune hand helps him; and for more mundane tasks daggers, knives, and sickles are needed; Plants are growing between the bones conjunctures due to the humidity; Spiders usually build nets during the long terms Death is inactive: and, a soul is still fueling this body even when does not take much decisions on the daily Death's tasks.
